Shipping & Returns

⇢ You bring your shoes to one of the affiliating climbing gyms.
Here you scan the QR code at the counter, follow the instructions and fill in the online form. Give your shoes to the employee at the counter.
We will email you around 2 weeks after the pick-up date, that your shoes are ready to be picked up again.

⇢ To have a good working flow for the shoe makers, each climbing gym has its own pick up moment. Here you can find an overview of the pick up moments each month.

⇢ In our current process, this is not possible. If you really require your resoled shoes to be dropped off at another location, please let us know before bringing them to the climbing gym. We will see together if we can find a possibility, but we will most likely have to add shipping costs.
Product Questions

⇢ The sole is too worn out when you can clearly see your feet through the hole. Soon we will publish a page on our website with details on what the best time for a resole is, and when you can not resole a shoe anymore.
When in doubt, try asking the employee at the counter.

⇢ The sole can be repaired with new rubber when you can still see the textile. When there is a small puncture or the textile is clearly visible a new rand is also needed. This is more expensive. See the two worn shoes picture below, they need a new rand.

⇢ A shoe can be resoled twice, maintaining the same longevity as buying new shoes. Since a pair of shoe easily costs €150 and repairing a pair of shoes costs €65, you can save over €200 if you repair them twice.

⇢ With earlier tests where we charged 55 euros, it showed that all rands were worn and needed to be replaced. Therefore, the average price for the shoemaker was around 45 euros, and we can’t pay the logistics and our employees with the with the remaining 10 euros. For 65 euros, we can pay for this and hopefully have a small margin, which we will use for our other sustainability actions.

⇢ The entire lacing system of the La Sportiva Solution & Futura models can be replaced for €20, you can put a note on the form. If you have other fixing requests for your shoes, write it on the form too.

⇢ We create a convenient service that allows you to pick it up from your home gym and deliver it there again. By collecting the shoes for one big shipment, CO2 emissions are reduced and shoemakers have less logistical hassle. If you send your shoes to the resoler, you would have to pay for shipment twice which is possibly more expensive than our REsole program.
However, we do not mind if you decide the costs are too high and want to send your shoe directly to the shoemaker. If you end up REsoling your shoes, than our mission has been accomplished! The ‘profit’ we gain from our REsoling program, we put back into our other projects that are there to make the climbing industry and community more sustainable

⇢ The first step in the resole process is to remove the outsole from the shoe. After the outsole has been removed, the rand is inspected and is removed if in need of repair. Then we go through the process of cleaning leftover glue to create a smooth surface so that we can start rebuilding the shoe starting with the rand. New soles will be glued to the shoe, after which it goes through an overnight curing process that allows the adhesives to bond securely. Once bonded, the shoe is shaped on a grinder to achieve the appropriate shape.

⇢ Yes. Our resoling partners have got the appropriate lasts that give them the right shape again, like when you first bought them (lasts are shapes that fill the shoe during curing of the glue).

⇢ No. The shoes are returned with their original shape and with fresh rubber. However they maintain the shape of your foot. As such you’ve already worn them in.

⇢ Minor changes can occur due to the stripping and refitting of the rubber. These will not lead to any measurable difference in size though. Only if you hand in your shoes when they are nearly too worn out, you might experience that your shoes have become a bit smaller. This is why we recommend you to always drop off your shoes rather earlier than later!

⇢ If you’re not satisfied with the repaired shoes, please let us know! We’re happy when you’re happy, if you’re not, we’ll fix it.
Sustainability

⇢ The amount of material needed for resoling is about 10% of the amount of material in a new shoe. Twice the longevity, 10% of the waste.

⇢ We are currently working on a recycling project for climbing shoes! You can hand in your worn out shoes at the climbing gym, and we will recycle them into rubber gym mats.

⇢ We work together with Schoenmakerij Stultiens and Cambreur, who have shown great quality on Vibram resoles and are La Sportiva certified. We also work together with Curada resole in Eindhoven. As we speak, we’re training local shoemakers to become certified resolers.
Foundation

⇢ Clean Climber is a non-profit organisation, so by definition we don’t. Most of the costs goes towards the repair of the shoes and logistics. The small margin on the products is used for bettering the service, and improving sustainability within Dutch climbing.
